Vol. 138 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Consumption at Allenwood.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the amount of turf consumed in the E.S.B. station at Allenwood within the year ended 31st March or 31st December last and whether any, and if so, how much, of this turf was brought to such station from outside County Kildare.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that of the 195,000 tons of turf comsumed in the Allenwood generating station in the 12 months ended 31st March, 1953, at least 190,000 tons were from Kildare bogs. It is not possible to state precisely how much of the balance of 5,000 tons was from outside Kildare.

Is that in respect of the period up to 31st March last?

At present one can see nothing but lorries hauling turf. Perhaps it is since the 1st April but there is a great deal of turf being brought into the area from outside at the moment.
