Vol. 138 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state what grant will be made available to the Kildare County Council under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the current financial year.

I am at present awaiting the submission by the Kildare County Council and by other county councils of their programmes of work for the current financial year. The approximate amount of grant available for allocation (about 50 per cent. of last year's grant) has already been notified to local authorities generally.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether any sums under the Local Authorities (Works) Act were paid to urban councils in the year 1952; and, if so, why no allocation was made to Listowel Urban Council.

Allocations of grants were made to a number of urban authorities which submitted schemes of work under the Act for 1952-53. As no such schemes were submitted by the Listowel Urban District Council for that year no grant was allocated.
