Vol. 138 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Vacancies.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the cause of the delay in filling three vacancies on the overseer grade in the Central Telegraph Office, Dublin, and when the vacancies will be filled.

The filling of these vacancies has been deferred pending decisions on certain matters affecting both the Central Telegraph Office and other branches of the Department. I am not yet in a position to say when a decision regarding the filling of the vacancies will be taken.

Is the Minister aware that some of these vacancies have existed for almost three years and that one has existed for the past 12 months? What insuperable difficulty has arisen to prevent the filling of the vacancies over that long period?

The delay will not be prolonged unduly. It is due to certain matters affecting the organisation of the telegraphs branch.

Is there likely to be an early decision?

A reasonably early decision.
