Vol. 138 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that millers are experiencing great difficulty in securing adequate supplies of suitable oats; and, if so, if he will state what steps he proposes to take in order to meet the situation.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that some millers are experiencing difficulty in obtaining supplies of home-grown oats suitable for the manufacture of oatmeal. Unless such supplies are forthcoming it may be necessary to permit the importation of a limited quantity of oats to enable the millers to meet the demand for oatmeal between now and next harvest. Accordingly I would suggest that farmers or merchants who have suitable oats to offer should contact flake oatmeal millers.
