Vol. 138 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken in connection with the claim for a housing scheme in Milltown, County Kerry.

Plans for a scheme of 12 houses at Milltown were approved by my Department on 10th January, 1953.

Tenders for the carrying out of the schemes were invited by the Kerry County Council on 11th March, 1953, and proposals for the acceptance of a tender are awaited.

Mr. Flynn

Is the Minister aware that the Kerry County Council accepted tenders for that scheme six weeks ago? That scheme has been dealt with by the Kerry County Council.

That may be so, but my Department is awaiting notification of the acceptance of a tender by the Kerry County Council.

Is the Minister aware that great disappointment has been felt by applicants for houses in the area because six months ago the Minister cut a sod on the site? My information is that these houses will not be built until a sewerage and water scheme is carried out in Milltown. In that case, we may expect the housing scheme in six years' time.

No Minister was ever better able to cut a sod on a site than I.

It was ridiculous for the Minister to do that if there was no possibility of building the houses.

Could we all admit that undoubtedly the Minister for Local Government is the best person for producing fakes?
