Vol. 138 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is a very high demand for a rural electrification scheme from the people in the Glenflesk, Barnaduff, Loo Bridge area; and, if so, if he will state what steps have been taken to ensure its installation at an early date.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that a canvass of the residents of the Glenflesk area which, for the purposes of the rural electrification scheme will include Barnaduff and Loo Bridge, was begun recently. It is not possible, at this stage, to say when the electrical development of the area is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, pending agreement on the proposal to purchase the private electric plant in Kenmare, the E.S.B. will take steps to erect the transformer in Kilgarvan as originally provided for, so that a rural electrification scheme may operate in that area, where there is 100 per cent. demand for the supply.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that it is not the intention to erect a transformer station at Kilgarvan before agreement is reached on the acquisition by the board of the existing electricity undertaking at Kenmare.
