Vol. 139 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Sight-Testing Facilities.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the fact that there is no ophthalmic service for County Donegal, he will consider the advisability of having sight-testing done for those entitled to treatment under the Social Welfare Acts by local qualified opticians until such time as alternative arrangements are made.

As I expect the services of an ophthalmic surgeon in County Donegal to be restored in the very near future I do not propose to adopt the suggestion made by the Deputy. In the meantime temporary arrangements have been made to reimburse insured persons any travelling expenses necessarily incurred by them in attending at the nearest centre at which an ophthalmic surgeon is at present available.
