The estimated percentage of insured persons on the live register at the middle of April, 1953 (exclusive of agriculture, fishing and private domestic service) was 12.0 per cent. As I indicated in my reply to Deputy Kyne on 29th April,1953, this figure is subject to revision when the estimates of the current number of persons insured in the relevant categories become available. These statistics are not yet ready but the indications are that the effect of using the current data for the insured population will be to reduce the percentage by between 1/2 and 1 per cent.
