Vol. 139 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Turf Generating Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the grave concern of the people of Cahirciveen and surrounding districts in regard to the type of survey carried out in respect of the proposed turf generating station for the area; and, if so, if he will request the E.S.B. to survey the area west of Cahirciveen and also the extensive turf areas south of that area.

I am satisfied that the E.S.B. will carry out all technical investigations necessary for giving effect to the Government's decision in regard to the erection of a turf-fired electricity generating station in SouthWest Kerry.

Is the Minister aware that the survey staff sent down there did not visit the Cahirciveen area proper, particularly the turbary areas west and south of Cahirciveen, and that the people down there feel that, in that casual visit, adequate cognisance was not taken of the position? In view of these facts, will the Minister make it known to the E.S.B. that the peopledown there feel that the survey was not sufficiently detailed in the circumstances?

I will direct the attention of the E.S.B. to the Deputy's remarks.
