asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the total number of trees planted out by the Forestry Division last season, giving the numbers of each species and totals, and (b) the number of plants in the nurseries as ascertained in last year's autumn count.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tree Planting Statistics.
Exact figures of the numbers of trees planted out are not yet available. I have, however, prepared for circulation in the Official Report a tabular statement showing the original plant allocations for last season together with a statement of the number of transplants in the nurseries. The actual number of trees planted will exceed the allocations as additional plants were required for supplementary planting and beating up.
Following is the statement:—

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the Government's annual planting target for afforestation and the area (approximately) to be planted in the coming planting season.
It is proposed to plant 12,500 acres approximately during the coming season. Government policy, as I indicated in the House on the 1st July, 1952, when introducing the Forestry Estimate for 1952-53, is to increase the annual planting rate to an immediate target of 15,000 acres as soon as practicable.
