Vol. 139 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin School Requirements.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received representations from local residents atPalmerstown, County Dublin, in regard to the need for a new school; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to meet local needs in this connection.

Representations from local parties at Palmerstown have been made to my Department regarding the need for the erection of a new school there, in view of the extensive housing developments in the area. The question of the provision of additional school accommodation to cater for children from the new houses which are being built by the Dublin Corporation and by private enterprise in the Ballyfermot extension and Palmerstown areas is engaging the urgent attention of my Department, in collaboration with the other interests involved. Steps are being taken with a view to having a suitable site for new schools made available. When a suitable site has been obtained the other necessary preliminary arrangements will be attended to as expeditiously as possible.
