Vol. 139 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the present dual system of inspection by the engineers of his Department and those of the local authority of housing under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950, has not made for efficiency; and, if so, if he will consider reverting to the original scheme whereby officials of his Department are made directly and solely responsible for the inspection for all claims under this particular Act.

I am aware that the existing statutory procedure for dealing with applications for reconstructiongrants under Section 8 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1950, has given rise to difficulties in some areas. Amending legislation would be necessary to enable the present procedure to be revised and I am having this aspect of the matter examined.
