Vol. 139 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork School Facilities.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the grave inconvenience caused to pupils residing in Reengaroga Island, Baltimore, owing to the lack of school facilities in the immediate locality; and if so, if he will ensure that the grievance will be rectified either by reopening the island school or providing suitable transport.

I wish to refer the Deputy to the reply given regarding this matter on 5th June, 1952. As it now appears that the circumstances of the case may have altered, the question as to whether a grant-in-aid of a transport service for the conveyance of children residing in Reengaroga Island to the nearest national school is at present being investigated. A decision in the matter will be given at the earliest possible date.

The number of prospective pupils on the island would not, however, warrant the reopening of the former Reengaroga school.

The transport question is awaiting decision. There will be a decision on that shortly, we take it?
