Vol. 139 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Harbours.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state if any grants have been allocated by his Department for the development of harbours in West Cork; and, if so, if he will indicate the amounts and the harbours to be developed.

I understood from a statement made by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Government that some major development works were to be carried out in the case of at least six harbours in the South of Ireland. I was mainly interested to know what harbours in West Cork have been suggested for major development. As regards the works mentioned by the Parliamentary Secretary, I suggest that at least one of these harbours in West Cork should be developed in a big way so that it will be capable of meeting the requirements of modern fishing fleets calling there. Representations have already been made to the Parliamentary Secretary's office about the pier at Baltimore.

The Deputy is now making a speech.

I am asking a question.

The Deputy is not.

The Deputy should address his question relating to marine works to the Department of Industry and Commerce.
