Vol. 139 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Tenant Purchase Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he received a memorandum last March from the County Dublin Tenants Association stating reasons why the tenant purchase scheme No. 1, 1953, is not acceptable to tenants of cottages in the Coolock and Tolka areas; and, if so, if he will state the reason for the delay in considering the objections in respect of which his decisions are awaited.

The purchase scheme which was submitted by the county council last March has been under examination in conjunction with the association's objections thereto and a decision will issue shortly. There has been no avoidable delay in dealing with the scheme or the objections.

Is it not a fact that these objections were lodged with the Minister last February?

It is a fact. This is the first purchase scheme submitted to the Department affecting houses rented on a differential rent basis. It is an involved matter and one which requires the closest and most careful examination before a final decision is made.

Will the Minister indicate whether the information can be made available within a month or even before the end of this month?

I cannot, but I think it will not be very long.
