Vol. 139 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to extend therural electrification scheme to the Cullahill and Knock districts, Roscrea, County Tipperary.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Derryvale area, which includes Knock and the countryside to the north of Cullahill, and the Clonakenny area, which includes the countryside to the west of Cullahill, have been considered by the board on a number of occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme. So far the areas have not been selected as their financial returns do not compare favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Portlaoighise district. The areas will be considered again in the future but I am unable to state when development is likely to take place.
