Vol. 139 No. 13

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 9, and on No. 9, Vote No. 27. If not already reached it is proposed to interrupt business between 6 o'clock and 7.30 for Vote 27 and afterwards resume the order of business. It is not proposed to interrupt public business to take Private Members' business.

May I ask the Taoiseach whether it is proposed to impose any time limit on the debate on the Vote of Confidence which the Taoiseach has tabled?

No, no time limit. The Whips usually arrange in cases of that sort as to the time that would be required.

There will be no guillotine on the duration of the discussion?

If it is obvious that the discussion is being prolonged simply for the purpose of obstruction it would be a different matter.

It is not we who are obstructing now.

There is a shorter cut to getting a Vote of Confidence.

Possibly it would suit the convenience of all Parties if a time could be fixed for the conclusion of the debate so that every Deputy would know when the vote was going to be taken.

If we had a general election the sheriffs would settle that.

In a general election the Labour Party would be wiped out. They would lose more of their seats.

We were not wiped out in Wicklow.
