Vol. 140 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licence Duty on Tractors.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has received representations from the Creamery Haulier Tractor Association about the increase in the licence duty payable on tractorsused for the haulage of milk to creameries, and whether he will consider excluding these vehicles from the increased tax.

I have received representations regarding the classification for taxation purposes of tractors used for the haulage of milk for reward. It would require legislation to give special treatment to such vehicles as district from other tractors used for commercial haulage, and I do not propose to sponsor such legislation. As I indicated in replies to supplementary questions on 3rd ultimo, there is no difficulty about tractors used for the haulage of milk in any case where no charge is made.
