Vol. 140 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erection of Schull Breakwater.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate when it is hoped to commence the erection of a breakwater at Schull for the protection of the fishing fleet there.

The question of improvement works at Schull harbour is still under consideration and it is not yet possible to state when a decision may be reached in the matter.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary indicate how long this matter is under consideration?

Last September the officials of Cork County Council carried out an inspection and submitted a proposal through the Fisheries Branch which was not acceptable because the proposal was not large enough. Last March officials of the Board of Works with an inspector of the Fisheries Branch carried out an inspection. All agreed that the proposal was not satisfactory. This present week an inspector has gone down for a further consultation and I hope a satisfactory plan will emerge.
