Vol. 140 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Work Schemes for West Cork.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the schemes approved under the headings (i) relief schemes; (ii) bog development, and (iii) any other schemes for the West Cork area for 1953-54.

Grants are sanctioned for the carrying out of employment schemes in the winter period when unemployment is at its maximum. It is too early, at this stage, to say what allowance will be made under this heading in the current financial year.

A programme of bog drainage schemes is at present being prepared, but particulars of the schemes to be carried out in West Cork will not be available for another few weeks. A programme of bog road works will be prepared at a later stage.

Since the 1st April, 1951, 11 rural improvements schemes, estimated to cost £1,837, have been sanctioned for execution.
