Vol. 141 No. 1

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Assistance Officers' Pay

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state whether any applications for an increase in pay for home assistance officers have been submitted to his Department by county managers, and, if so, whether he will state what decision has been communicated to the county managers on the applications received.

Proposals for increased pay for assistance officers have been received from 11 local authorities. Some relate to revised salary scales, and such proposals are considered on their merits. Proposals in relation to an increase in temporary allowances to meet an increase in the cost of living are under consideration in consultation with other Departments concerned. No decision has yet been communicated to local authorities.

Can the Minister give the House any idea as to what is the cause of the unnecessary delay in his Department in giving sanction to applications such as those referred to by Deputy Norton in this question?

There are no unnecessary delays.
