Vol. 141 No. 1

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Transport.

andBlaneyasked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is yet in a position to make a statement on the question of the future of public transport in Donegal.

I have at present under consideration the future of public transport in County Donegal in view of proposals of the existing transport operators to terminate most of the railway services in that county in the early future.

The problem of public transport in County Donegal is complicated by a number of special features which do not apply in other parts of the State and account will have to be taken of themin arriving at decisions as to how best to meet the needs of the areas.

Some progress has been made in the examination of the matter, but final decisions will not be taken until local interests have been afforded an opportunity of expressing their views.

Will the House be given an opportunity of discussing any proposal that may be made?

I have no doubt Deputies who are interested will provide that opportunity.

The Minister does not propose to provide it?

I cannot say from recollection to what extent these matters necessarily come before the House.
