asked the Minister for Lands if he will give the following particulars in respect of forestryoperations for each year since 1922: (a) the area of woodlands acquired, (b) the area of land suitable for planting acquired, (c) the area of land unsuitable for planting acquired, (d) the total area acquired, (e) the area of woodlands and plantation deemed to be irretrievably damaged by fire, pests or failure, (f) the total area of land sold or disposed of, (g) the total balance of the area in possession at the end of each year, and (h) the area forming part of such balance available as a reserve for planting at the end of each year.
asked the Minister for Lands if he will give the following particulars in respect of forestry operations in woodlands and plantations held by the State for each of the years since 1922: (a) area planted, (b) area thinned, (c) area of woodlands cleared (felled), (d) area of scrub lands cleared, and (e) area of land drained or otherwise prepared for planting.
asked the Minister for Lands if he will give the following particulars in respect of the personnel employed in the Forestry Division and in forestry operations for the State for each of the years since 1922: (a) number engaged in administrative work exclusive of land acquisition staff, (b) number employed on land acquisition, (c) total salaries and allowances of administrative side, (d) number of foresters permanently employed, (e) number of rangers permanently employed, (f) average number of other workers excluding the foregoing categories employed during year, (g) number of forestry trainees undergoing training, and (h) the total amount paid in wages and allowances to foresters, rangers, other forest workers and forestry trainees.
The particulars asked for in Question No. 23 are set out in table A of the attached tabular statement. The particulars asked for in Question Nos. 24, 25, 26, in so far as they are readily available for the year 1949-50 and earlier years, have been included in the various reports published by the Minister for Lands for the period 1933-50 and by the Minister for Agriculturefor preceding years. Corresponding information for the three years ended 31st March, 1953, is given in tables B, C and D of the tabular statement. Ido not consider that the expenditure of time necessary to compile the particulars which are not readily available would be justified.
