Vol. 141 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that contractors under the land reclamation scheme are finding it very difficult to meet their commitments due to delay in the issue of paying orders to them for work completed and that in some cases work had to be suspended as the contractors were not able to pay their workmen due to this delay and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to remedy this state of affairs.

Mr. Walsh

I am not aware that there is any delay in the issue of paying orders to contractors for work completed by them under the land reclamation scheme. In fact, I can assure the Deputy that no delay occurs in the making of payments to contractors employed by my Department who are certified to have completed reclamation work satisfactorily.
