Vol. 141 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Land Reclamation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether with a view to preventing the depopulation of the Dingle peninsula and saving much good land in the area, he will consider favourably the carrying out of the proposals made to him by the Dingle and Clohane farmers' improvement committee as part of the land project; and if in particular he will sanction immediately a scheme for the reclamation of about 6,000 acres of land in the area and the fencing of hill grazing in the Clohane district as part of the project.

Mr. Walsh

Numerous special proposals including those mentioned in the Deputy's question have been made with a view to the improvement of land in the Dingle peninsula and in many other parts of the country, and they have been examined. The land reclamation scheme is being availed of in the peninsula and applications are being attended to as quickly aspossible. It is not practicable, however, to make special regulations for the areas referred to, or to make special grants available for the fencing of hill grazing.
