Vol. 141 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Kerry Bridge.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the farmers resident at Inchees West, Waterville, are now prepared to contribute to the cost of the erection of a bridge in the townland of Inchees West; and, if so, if he will allocate the necessary grant for the carrying through of the scheme.

I am not so aware. I assume that the Deputy refers to a proposal under the rural improvements scheme for the erection of bridge near the ford between the townlands of Inchees West and Shanaknock, County Kerry. The applicants' representative, Mr. Seán T. O'Mahony, was asked on 13th January, 1953, for an assurance that the beneficiaries would be prepared to contribute to the cost of the work and there is no record of a reply to that letter.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that as far as the landsof these farmers are concerned the necessary contribution has been forwarded to the Department within the past week or two and can he see his way again to examine the position?

I cannot understand that because even if the contribution was forwarded in the absence of inspection the amount of the contribution could not be determined by the director of the special employment schemes office.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the farmers resident at Meeliguleen, Ballinskelligs, are now prepared to contribute to the cost of the erection of a bridge at Meeliguleen; and, if so, if he will allocate the necessary grant for the carrying through of the scheme.

As indicated in reply to questions by the Deputy on 6th December, 1951; 1st May, 1952, and 3rd June, 1953, this proposal could be considered only if submitted under the rural improvements scheme. An application under that scheme was received in the special employment schemes office on the 18th of this month.

Until an inspection has been carried out and the inspector's report considered, I cannot say what grant, if any, can be allocated for the carrying out of the scheme.
