Vol. 142 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Rehabilitation Project.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has received representations about delays in dealing with applications under the land rehabilitation project and what steps he proposes to take to expedite attention to applications which are over three months outstanding.

Mr. Walsh

Representations are made to my Department in some cases to the effect that delay has occurred in dealing with applications. I cannot, however, agree that there is, generally speaking, any undue delay in dealing with cases where farmers wish to carry out the work themselves under Section A. In regard to the cases of applicants who wish my Department to do the work for them under Section B, I am aware that a number of farmers in all counties who have applied to have reclamation work on their holdings carried out by the Department are anxious to have the work attended to at an early date. Work is being pushed forward as expeditiously as possible in so far as the practical limitations of staff, finance and availability of machinery allow.
