Vol. 142 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballylongford Housing Site.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state who recently requested that two officials of his Department visit Ballylong-for concerning a housing site there, and if he is aware that an excellent site was already selected which is the council's property and that there was no reason for the visit of the officials; and, further, that a site recommended by these officials which was also the property of the council was rejected by the council's officers four years ago and that his Department's failure to allow the council to go ahead and build houses in Ballylongford is causing hardship there as the area is in dire need of houses.

Housing sites in the Ballylongford area were inspected last June by technical officers of my Department in the normal course of their official duties as the site selected by the Kerry County Council was not considered to be the most suitable one available. I am not aware that a site recommended by my advisers was rejected by the council's officers four years ago.

I am aware of the need for houses in Ballylongford and my Department has been pressing the council to provide the necessary houses.
