Vol. 142 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Pensioners.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will introduce proposals for legislation to enable increases to be paid to pensioners who were formerly employed by local authorities, as grave necessity exists for immediate increases which cannot be implemented without legislation.

The introduction of legislation on the lines indicated is not at present contemplated.

Does the Minister not consider that such legislation would be very advisable in view of the fact that the cost of living has increased considerably and that these people find that the value of their pensions is much less than would afford them a decent livelihood?

Legislation on the lines suggested is not at present contemplated.
