Vol. 142 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Bill, 1952.

asked the Taoiseach if he has recently received, as head of the Government, a memorandum from the Irish Bishops with further comments on the Health Bill, 1952, and if it was considered by the Government what action was taken in respect to it.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative, and the remaining parts do not therefore arise.

Might I inquire, in this connection, from the Taoiseach whether he has received a copy of a communication addressed by the Irish Hierarchy to the Minister for Health and whether it is a fact that he has given a verbal assurance to the Irish Hierarchy that the Bill will not be put into operation and that it will be shelved indefinitely?

The answer is in the negative.

Might I further inquire if when the Irish Hierarchy addressed a communication to the Government it was suppressed?

That is a separate question.

Also untrue.

It was suppressed and the Taoiseach knows it.

Who suppressed it?

The Government.

Question No. 2.
