Vol. 142 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Air Corps Appointment.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether the transfer of the officer from the post of Officer Commanding, Army Air Corps Schools, to the post of Camp Commandant, Army Air Corps Headquarters, is regarded, officially, as promotion or otherwise.

The transfer in question is not regarded, officially, as being promotion or otherwise.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether the action of the Officer Commanding, Air Corps School, which was the subject of my question on the 20th October last, was a breach of Defence Force Regulations.

asked the Minister for Defence if the appropriate action referred to in his reply to my question of 20th October, 1953, is to be regarded as disciplinary; and, if so, whether he will state the nature of such disciplinary action.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (a) the normal flying duties performed by an officer holding the appointment of Camp Commandant, Army Air Corps Headquarters, Baldonnel, and (b) the actual flying hours completed and the amount of flying pay received by the present occupant of that post during the following periods, (1) 6th January, 1951, to 19th May, 1952, and (2) 30th September, 1952, to 30th September, 1953.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 43, 44 and 45 together.

The officer holding the appointment of Camp Commandant, Army Air Corps Headquarters, Baldonnel, has no specific flying duties to perform, but as a qualified pilot he is required to keep himself exercised by undergoing periodic refresher courses.

The other matters referred to by the Deputy are questions of internal Army administration affecting a particular serving officer and I cannot see how the public interest would be served in supplying the information requested. In my opinion, disclosure of the information would be prejudicial to Army discipline.

Would the Minister state if there is any difference in the rates of pay of the officer commanding the Army Air Corps Schools and of the Camp Commandant, Army Air Corps Headquarters?

Not if the ranks are the same.

Are the ranks the same?

I presume they are, that both are lieutenant-colonel, and if so there is no difference in the pay.
