Vol. 142 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearrangement of Mayo Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made towards the rearrangement and improvement of the townland of Meelick, Irishtown, Claremorris, County Mayo.

The holdings of the tenants in the townland of Meelick were physically rearranged by the late Congested Districts Board in 1919, and necessary improvement works were executed. Further works have since been carried out by the Land Commission, and it is hoped to have the holdings vested in the tenants at an early date.

Am I to take it from that that the Land Commission have decided not to carry out any further enlargement, rearrangement or improvement in that townland?

That seems to be the position.

I want to draw the attention of the Minister to this: that that particular townland is as congested as any in the county. While it may be true that they got a physical rearrangement by the old Congested Districts Board, the highest valuation in the townland is £5 each. Surely the Minister would take the matter up with the commissioners? This is trying to by-pass a job which definitely comes within their ambit.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if it is likely that finality will be reached in the rearrangement of the remaining portion of the Peyton Estate, close to the town of Castlebar, County Mayo, during the coming winter; and, further, if he will state the cause of the delay.

It is hoped that the remainingtownlands on the Peyton Estate, County Mayo, will be rearranged by the end of next March. The Deputy will appreciate that the Land Commission had to build up a sufficiency of land to permit of satisfactory schemes being prepared.
