Vol. 142 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Utilisation of Milk.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what are the estimated quantities of milk used in manufacturing processes other than creamery butter during 1953, what are these processes and what was the user in respect of each.

On the basis of the quantity of milk already delivered to creameries in 1953 and the quantity of butter manufactured, it is estimated that about 46,000,000 gallons of creamery milk will be used in themanufacture of dairy products other than butter during the year. As there is no quantitative restriction on the use of milk by licensed manufacturers of non-butter dairy products, I am not in a position to break down the estimate of 46,000,000 gallons into the quantities estimated to be used for each particular product. The manufacturing processes involved and the quantities of creamery milk used for each in 1952 are as follows:—

16,585,000

Dried and Condensed Milk

13,200,000
