Vol. 142 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dressed Meat Trade.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that fearshave been expressed that the decision of the British Government to decontrol the meat industry next year may have ill-effects on our dressed meat trade; and, if so, if he will indicate the steps he proposes to adopt in relief of the position.

I am not so aware.

The amendment made last June to the trade agreement with Britain provided that in the event of the handing back by the British Government of the importation or purchase of certain agricultural products, including carcass meat, to private traders, the two Governments would consider together the arrangements under which the trade in such products would be continued. Discussions between representatives of the two Governments will accordingly take place as soon as practicable.
