Vol. 143 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Suck Catchment Area Survey.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in reference to his statement in the Official Report of Dáil Debates, Volume 142, column 464, when a survey of the River Suck catchment area is likely to be commenced.

The programme of survey and design work for arterial drainage at present in hands will fully occupy the available staff for some time to come. I am not in a position to say when the survey of the Suck catchment can be begun.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary explain his statement which is reported in the Official Report of the Dáil Debates, Volume 142, column 464, to the effect that, when the work on which the survey teams are working at the moment is completed, the survey teams will be put to work immediately on the Suck?

The survey work is not everything. A large number of the engineers engaged on the survey staff are subsequently engaged in the designing of plans. A competition was held recently to augment and expand the staffs. It is hoped, if the competitionhas been successful, that the survey will be proceeded with somewhat earlier than it otherwise would.

May I take it from the Parliamentary Secretary's reply that the next scheme on the priority list to be undertaken by the Board of Works will be that of the river Suck?

That is the intention.
