Vol. 143 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Operating Costs.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give particulars of the annual cost of (a) the meteorological services maintained to serve Shannon Airport and the aircraft using Shannon Airport, and (b) the radio communication services maintained to serve Shannon Airport and aircraft on the transatlantic routes together with the receipts, if any, received in respect of these two services for each year since 1940.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabularstatement setting out the information sought by the Deputy.

These services are provided for the benefit of all types of aircraft using Shannon Airport, whether operating ontransatlantic flights or otherwise. There is no ready method of apportioning the costs between transatlantic and other routes, but it can be said that practically all of these costs are attributable to transatlantic flights.
