Vol. 143 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will sanction grants for Enniscorthy Urban Council and other County Wexford local authorities so that men may be employed for a few weeks before Christmas, particularly in view of the numbers unemployed in the towns.

Grants proportionate to the number of unemployment assistance recipients in the respective areas have already been allocated for employment schemes in Enniscorthy and in the other urban areas in County Wexford.

We know that, but what about the sanction to the money? We want to go on with the work and want to know when it will be sanctioned. We are getting very near Christmas now.

There will be no undue delay, if the scheme is approved.

Could the Parliamentary Secreteary indicate what the amount for Enniscorthy is? He did not know the last day I asked him.

I think the total is £890.

Is there anything to prevent the work in these four towns being started next week?

Could we start?
