Vol. 143 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Jumping Team.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the total costs and expenses incurred by the Army jumping team in each of the years 1951 and 1952, and in 1953 to date; and also give details of the prizes won by the team in each of those years and the value of such prizes.

The total costs and expenses incurred by the Army equitation team in each of the years 1951, 1952, and in 1953 to date were, respectively, £8,629, £7,701 and £5,254. During those years, cash prizes were won to the value of approximately £1,261, £1,534 and £1,463, respectively. In addition, a number of trophies were won, but no assessment has been made of their value.

I am not in a position readily to give details of the prizes won by the teamin each of the years referred to and the compilation of the necessary information would entail a considerable expenditure of time and labour. If, however, the Deputy is particularly anxious to have these details, I will arrange to have the necessary statement compiled and forwarded to him in due course.
