Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport of Dublin School Children.

asked the Minister for Education if he will have arrangements made for the transport of children living in newly built-up areas to the city schools where they were formerly pupils, particularly those living in the West Finglas area.

There are at present approximately 750 children being conveyed daily by nine special school buses from the Finglas area (including Finglas West)to city schools where there is adequate and suitable accommodation available, viz., Gardiner Street Convent, North Great George's Street Convent and East Wall Boys' National Schools, pending the erection of new schools in Finglas East and West.

Approximately 1,350 children are also conveyed daily by 17 special school buses to Whitefriars' Street, Baggot Street Convent and City Quay Boys' National Schools from Ballyfermot, pending the completion of new schools in course of erection there.

As the schools formerly attended by pupils now residing in the newly-built areas are scattered over the whole city area, it would not be feasible to run a special bus service to each such school.
