Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Telephone Agreement.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state (a) what percentage of telephone subscribers have not completed and returned the new telephone agreement and (b) at what rate are those who have not completed or returned the new telephone agreement being charged for calls.

The information requested is as follows: (a) Less than 1 per cent., (b) at the appropriate rates laid down by Statutory Instrument No. 227 of 1953. In the period since the announcement of the new charges 2,507 subscribers' applications have been received and since the beginning of the year applications are equal to 8 per cent. of the total subscribers. There have been increases in Dublin business and provincial residents' applications and decreases in Dublin residents' and provincial businesses' applications but in October, 1953, the total applications received were equal to those in October, 1952.
