Vol. 143 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dredging of Dingle Harbour.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the total amount spent in the dredging of Dingle harbour; (b) if the dredging is completed; (c) the amount spent by the Kerry County Council in carrying out the survey, and (d) the date on which his Department notified the Kerry County Council that they were prepared to give a grant if the county council undertook to have the survey carried out.

The following are the answers to the points raised by the Deputy:—

I am informed by the Office of Public Works that the total expenditure to date is approximately £3,000 and that about two-thirds of the work has been completed.

I am not aware of the amount expended by the county council in connection with the preliminary survey made by the consulting engineer engaged by the harbour commissioners.

No notification was given to the Kerry County Council by my Department in the terms mentioned, but an officer of my Department informed the secretary of the harbour commissioners in the course of an interview in Dingle on 15th August, 1949, that a survey by the commissioners was necessary in order to find out the extent of dredging required and to estimate the cost thereof.
