Vol. 143 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coastal Survey.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will undertake to have a survey of the coast carried out with a view to having established generating stations powered by the sea; and, if so, whether he will have a start made on the County Donegal coast, particularly Mulroy Bay.

I have been advised by the Electricity Supply Board, who have studied the results of investigations made in other countries, that they do not consider that an economic scheme of tidal generation of electricity could be developed in Ireland. In the circumstances it is not proposed to carry out a survey of the coast on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
