Vol. 143 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Ex-Servicemen.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state if Government policy in regard to the resettlement, employment, etc., of former members of the Defence Forces is still as set out in the White Paper of 1945; and, if so, if he is aware that this policy is not being carried into effect in some instances by Government Departments, local authorities and some State sponsored bodies, such as C.I.E. and the E.S.B.; and whether, in the circumstances, he will state what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

The scheme approved by the Government to give effect to the provisions of the White Paper of 1945 relating to employment concessions, is still inoperation although it was intended to operate only for a period of five years.

While I am not aware that its provisions are not being implemented, I may say that I will always be prepared to have investigated any well-founded complaint.
