Vol. 143 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Éireann Staff.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of 1953-54 the numbers and the total remuneration of each category of staff employed by Radio Éireann corresponding to the details given on pages 322 and 323 ofthe Estimates for the Public Services for 1952-53.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state in respect of 1953-54 the salary scale appropriate to each member of the staff of Radio Éireann corresponding to the information given on pages 325 and 326 of the Estimates for the Public Services for 1952-53.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

The current information required by the Deputy is being prepared and will be given if he repeats the questions next week.

I should add that the House approved of the principle that simplified Estimates could be presented in order to confer on Radio Éireann the greatest possible freedom so essential in the case of an entertainment organisation. It should be made clear, therefore, that alterations can be made within the financial year both in respect of categories, numbers and remuneration of unestablished staff and in respect of duties assigned to particular officers. The proportion of temporary as compared with permanent staff can also be changed.
