Vol. 143 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - De-Control of Meat Purchasing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is in a position tostate what effect the de-control of meat purchasing by the British Ministry of Food will have on the price of live cattle, and when the de-control will become effective.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what effect the de-control of purchasing by the British Ministry of Food will have on the dead meat trade.

Mr. Walsh

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to reply to Questions Nos. 54 and 55 together.

I would add to my reply to Deputy Hession's question on 12th November that there has since been a preliminary discussion with the appropriate British Ministries with a view to arranging detailed negotiations as provided for in the amendment made last June to the trade agreement. These detailed negotiations will probably take place early in 1954 and a further statement will be made as soon as possible thereafter.

The sooner the better.
