Vol. 143 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Recruiting Campaign.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (1) the amount paid for advertising for the purpose of recruiting for the Defence Forces for 1952 and for the first nine months of 1953 under the headings (a) newspaper advertising; (b) poster and outdoor advertising; (c) brochures and pamphlets, and (d) other headings and (2) the number of men enlisted during the year 1952 and for the first nine months of the current year.

It would not be in the public interest to disclose the figures under the individual headings mentioned by the Deputy. I can say, however, that the total cost under all the headings amounted to £13,440 during 1952 and to £15,495 during the first nine months of 1953.

The number of recruits enlisted in 1952 was 4,494 and from the 1st Januaryto the 30th September, 1953, the enlistments numbered 1,919.
