Vol. 143 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Piers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the urgent necessity for the extension and improvement of Reenard Point Pier on the mainland and of Knightstown Pier opposite it on Valentia Island and if he will state what is being done to meet the need.

The question of carrying out improvements to the pier at Reenard Point is still under consideration. A scheme for the improvement of the landing facilities at Knightstown, Valentia Island, was completed last August at a cost of approximately £3,200. No representations for further works have been received.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that in the summer of 1948 engineers inspected the pier at Reenard Point, that plans were drawn up and an estimate of the cost given? Is it still under consideration after five years?

It is and for pretty good reasons, too.

What are the reasons?

If the Deputy puts down a question, I will answer him.
