Vol. 143 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cahirciveen Hospital Conversion.

asked the Minister for Health if representations have been made to his Department for the conversion of the old district hospital in Cahirciveen into a home for aged and infirm people in the Iveragh Peninsula to obviate the necessity for their removal to the county home, Killarney, over 40 miles distant from their relatives and friends; and, if so, if he will state what action he intends to take in the matter.

I have received representations in this matter from the Cahirciveen Development Association, and in reply I have indicated that should the county council propose the provision of accommodation near Cahirciveen for persons who would otherwise be sent to the county home they will have my full co-operation.

Is the Minister aware that there is also a proposal to use the old hospital, perhaps temporarily, as a vocational school? Pending a decision as to whether it could be used as a county home or a vocational school, perhaps the matter need not for the present be pressed. We will, perhaps, refer it to the Minister for Education.

Is the Minister aware that at the county council meeting on Monday we decided to reconstruct that second hospital as a vocational school? The county council decided that on Monday last and it would appear that Deputy Palmer is not in possession of current information.

He has not read The Kerrymanyet.
