Vol. 143 No. 11

Private Notice Question. - Butter Supplies to Dublin Wholesaler.

On the grounds that the matter to be inquired into is one of urgent public importance, I desire, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to put the following question to the Minister: To ask the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that a certain Dublin butter wholesaler who has been supplying retailers with butter at a price sufficient to permit them to sell butter at 4/1 per lb. has been refused sufficient butter to meet the requirements of his customers by the Butter Marketing Committee, notwithstanding the fact that he is prepared to pay ready cash for all supplies received by him; and, if so, whether he will make a statement on the matter.

Mr. Walsh

I have heard of this matter and I have asked the Butter Marketing Committee for a full report.

Arising out of that reply, will the Minister undertake to ensure, if this man's supply of butter has been stopped, that supplies are fully restored as an interim measure on condition that cash is paid for them.

Mr. Walsh

I can give no such undertaking until I get the report from the Butter Marketing Board.

In view of the Minister's reply, I desire to give notice of my intention to raise this matter on the Adjournment, with the permission of the Chair.
