Vol. 143 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - An Bord Iascaigh Mhara.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (1) the cost of equipment and fishing gear supplied to each of the three German trawlers purchased by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara, (2) the cost of engine and mechanical repairs since the date of the purchase of these vessels, and (3) the source of these purchases.

I am informed by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the information requested is as follows:—

(1) The total cost was £3,512, but as some gear is interchangeable between the vessels, it is not possible to apportion the outlay between them.

(2) Payments to date amount to £3,310, some of which is the subject of an insurance claim. Further amounts for repair work remain to be paid but the exact cost of the work cannot yet be stated.

(3) An initial outfit of gear was purchased in Germany with the vessels and additions and replacements were purchased either in this country or in Great Britain. Engine replacements were purchased from the makers of the engines in Germany.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of landings of fish made by each of the three German trawlers purchased by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara for the periodfrom 15th December, 1952, to the end of November, 1953.

I am informed by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara that the information required is 30, 19 and 12.
